Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Spruce Brook Raspberry Farm         (Reg. 1651)
Proponent: Spruce Brook Farms Ltd.

The proponent proposes to develop 5.9 hectares of Crown land for raspberry production at Spruce Brook on the north side of George’s Lake, south of Corner Brook. The fields, farm access roads and other infrastructure will be developed over a three-year period beginning with 1.6 hectares in September of 2012. Operations will be seasonal from spring to fall and fresh raspberries will be sold to local markets.

The undertaking was registered on June 18, 2012, the deadline for public comments is July 23, 2012, and the minister’s decision is due by August 2, 2012.

Cliffs Resources Emulsion Plant         (Reg. 1650)
Proponent: Dyno Nobel Canada Inc.

The undertaking consists of the construction of a modular emulsion manufacturing plant and parking garage at the Scully Mine site in Wabush to supply Cliffs Mines with blasting agent emulsion for mining purposes. In addition to the manufacturing plant and heated parking garage, there will be construction of 778 metres of new rail section and construction of 2.5 kilometres of new access roads to service Scully Mine and other mines in the area. Construction is scheduled to begin in August of 2012.

The undertaking was registered on June 12, 2012; public comments are due by July 23, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by July 27, 2012.

Shoal Harbour - Residential Subdivision         (Reg. 1649)
Proponent: Clearwater Developments Limited

The undertaking consists of the development of approximately 22 residential lots for further residential development. The undertaking will include the development of lots, the construction of a new street, asphalt paving, curb, sidewalks, water/sewer services and a storm sewer. The project is located in the Town of Clarenville between Shoal Harbour Drive and the right-of-way for the Newfoundland T’Railway Provincial Park. Construction activities are to include clearing, grubbing, roadway construction and trenching for utilities. Once lots are completed the development will be turned over to the Town of Clarenville. House construction and lot landscaping will be completed according to municipal regulations. Development is set to begin in August 2012.

The undertaking was registered on June 13, 2012; public comments are due by July 23, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by July 28, 2012.

Loch Leven Forage Production         (Reg. 1634)
Proponent: New World Dairy Inc.
