Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Deer Lake Pressure Treated Lumber and Wood Manufacturing Facility
Proponent: Marwood Limited                          (Reg. 1641)

The proponent proposes to establish a facility to produce pressure-treated lumber to market local businesses and consumers throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. The facility will be located approximately five kilometres from the Trans Canada Highway intersection off Route 430 North on Incinerator Road in the Town of Deer Lake. The proposed facility will include an 18,000 square-foot treating plant and an adjacent 4,800 square-foot wood handling, sorting and manufacturing plant. Pressure-treated lumber and other manufactured products will be produced using lumber purchased from local smalls and will be substituted with other supply only when material is not available locally. Construction of the proposed facility will begin upon issue of approvals with an anticipated construction period of six months.

The undertaking was registered on March 22, 2012; the deadline for public comments is April 26, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by May 6, 2012.
