Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Lamaline Area Multi-use Eco-Tourist Trail (Reg. 1640)
Proponent: Greater Lamaline Area Multi-purpose Trail Association Inc.

The proponent proposes to construct a 17-kilometre multi-purpose trail that will begin in the Town of Lamaline and link the Fortune Trail via the Norwest Pond Trail. The trail is expected to be used year-round by hikers, ATV users and snowmobile users, as well as to access cabins located along the route. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the fall 2012.

The undertaking was registered on March 13, 2012; the deadline for public comments is April 18, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by April 27, 2012.

Saltwater Pond Island Access Trail
Proponent: Keith Dalley (Reg. 1639)

The proponent intends to develop a one-kilometre access trail from existing forest access roads near Springdale to a cabin on Saltwater Pond Island. The trail is intended to give access by ATV or snowmobile to Saltwater Pond Island and will involve the construction of a wooden causeway across the tickle. The trail will be approximately five metres wide, with a gravel top. The causeway will be constructed with a five-metre wide by two-metre high opening above the tickle.

The undertaking was registered on March 8, 2012; the deadline for public comments is April 18, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by April 21, 2012.

Little Heart’s Ease - Deer Harbour ATV Trail (Reg. 1638)
Proponent: Deer Harbour Trails Association Inc.

The proponent has submitted a proposal to construct a three-kilometre extension to the existing ATV in Hodges Cove. The objective of the proposed extension ATV trail is to re-establish the Hodges Cove ATV trail which was destroyed in Hurricane Igor and connect it to the Little Heart’s Ease trail. Work will include grubbing, ditching, some leveling and construction of one small bridge.

The undertaking was registered on March 8, 2012; the deadline for public comments is April 18, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by April 22, 2012.

UNDERTAKING RELEASED:

Crown Districts 9 and 16 Five-Year Operating Plan (Reg. 1622)
Proponent: Department of Natural Resources.

The project is released subject to the following condition:
• The proponent must adhere to harvesting and access road construction restrictions as required by the Wildlife Division and the Sustainable Development and Strategic Science Branch, Department of Environment and Conservation.

ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE APPOINTED:

Maritime Link Transmission Project
Proponent: ENL Maritime Link Inc. (Reg. 1618)
