Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Brown’s Arm Quarry Access Road (Reg. 1637)
Proponent: Dawson Freake

The proponent proposes to construct an access road to an existing quarry at Brown’s Arm in Central Newfoundland. The access road will connect to highway route 341 (Brown’s Arm Road) and is located just outside the Community of Brown’s Arm, Bay of Exploits, west of Lewisporte. The proposed access road will be 1.5 kilometres in length.

The undertaking was registered on February 22, 2012; the deadline for public comments is March 30, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by April 7, 2012.

Happy Valley-Goose Bay Shooting Range (Reg. 1636)
Proponent: Labrador Hunting and Fishing Association Inc.

The proponent has submitted a proposal to construct a 600 metre rifle range on Crown land near Happy Valley-Goose Bay. The facility will require a 100 metre gravel access road, a 30 metre x 60 metre administration building, a 600 metre shooting field, a sheltered shooting stand, a back stop, a 10-vehicle gravel parking lot and a four square kilometre safety area template. Construction of the project is scheduled to take place between May and September 2012.

The undertaking was registered on February 20, 2012; the deadline for public comments is March 30, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by April 5, 2012.

UNDERTAKING RELEASED:

Forest Management Districts 4, 5, 6 and 8 Five-Year Operating Plan (2012-2016)
Proponent: Department of Natural Resources (Reg. 1619)

The project is released subject to the following condition:
• Harvesting operations planned within the Gander River Protected Area are to be excluded from the operating plan.

Crown Districts 9 & 16 Five -Year Operating Plan Amendment (Reg. 1558)
