Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Goose Bay Sand and Gravel Quarry                 (Reg. 1627)
Proponent: Pennecon Limited

The proponent intends to develop a 15-hectare sand and gravel quarry approximately 20 kilometres southwest of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, east of the Trans Labrador Highway. The site will be accessed by an 800-metre access road to be constructed by the proponent. The quarry will provide sand and gravel for use in concrete production. Aggregate material will be excavated, crushed, washed and screened at the site. The project is scheduled to begin in May 2012.

The undertaking was registered on January 18, 2012; the deadline for public comments is February 23, 2012; and the minister’s decision is due by March 3, 2012.
