Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

AMENDMENT TO PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Houston 1 and 2 Deposits Mining Project (Reg. 1625)
Proponent: Labrador Iron Mines Limited

This undertaking does not include the establishment of additional ore processing infrastructure as previously announced on December 22, 2011. The proponent intends to use the existing Silver Yard processing facility for this project.

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED:

Labrador West (Block 103) Iron Exploration Project (Reg. 1596)
Proponent: Cap-Ex Ventures Ltd.

Muskrat Falls - Grand River Ironsands Sampling Program
Proponent: Grand River Ironsands (Reg. 1610)

The project is released subject to the following condition:

Forest Management Districts 9 and 16 Five-Year Operating Plan (Reg. 1594)
Proponent: Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Ltd.

The project is released subject to the following condition:

Forest Management Districts 5 and 6 Five-Year Operating Plan (Reg. 1595)
Proponent: Corner Brook Pulp and Paper Ltd.

The project is released subject to the following conditions:

COMPONENT STUDIES REQUIRE FURTHER WORK:

Labrador – Island Transmission Link
Proponent: Nalcor Energy (Reg. 1407)

Following public, Aboriginal and governmental review of the following four component studies submitted on July 5, 2011, it has been determined that the proponent needs to provide additional information for review. The component studies include:

The additional information, when submitted, will be subject to a legislated 35-day public, Aboriginal and governmental review period.
