Online Map Provides Easy Access to Early Childhood Programs and Services

A new feature added to the Provincial Government’s early childhood learning website will give parents and caregivers in this province easier access to the early learning opportunities and resources available in their communities.

“The experiences, opportunities and care that children receive between birth and the time they enter school lays the foundation for all future learning,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “This new interactive map will help people locate current, relevant resources and services in their communities, such as regulated child care facilities, child health clinics, family child care agencies, family resource centres, public libraries, literacy centres and schools.”

The map can be found at www.ed.gov.nl.ca/edu/earlychildhood/guide.html

“For the first time, this map allows people to go to one place to find the early learning services and resources available near their homes,” said the Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services. “Providing easy access to this type of information speaks to our continued commitment to supporting parents and caregivers in the early years of their children’s development.”

In 2011, the Provincial Government committed $4.8 million over a three-year period to support its Early Childhood Learning Strategy, Learning from the Start. For more information on early childhood learning go to: www.ed.gov.nl.ca/edu/earlychildhood/index.html
