O’Donel High Roofing Project Tender Awarded

O’Donel High School in Mount Pearl will see an investment of more than $288,000 in a major roofing project, following the recent award of a tender to AMD Holdings Ltd. of St. John’s.

“It is important that we protect our investment in existing school infrastructure throughout Newfoundland and Labrador by allocating appropriate funding for regular repairs and maintenance,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “This particular project involves the replacement of the gymnasium roof and the middle roof of the school. It is one of more than 1,700 repair and maintenance projects approved for schools across the province over the past nine years.”

With this latest investment, about $583,000 has been invested in upgrades at O’Donel High since 2005.

“I am very proud of the continued priority that our government places on the education of our students,” said Paul Lane, MHA for Mount Pearl South. “O’Donel High School has a long and proud history of academic excellence in the City of Mount Pearl. This infrastructure investment will ensure that this strong tradition will continue for many years to come.”

More than $29 million has been allocated for priority maintenance projects at schools this year, including the replacement of windows, roofing and siding, and for ongoing electrical and plumbing upgrades.

"I am very pleased to see further investments in O'Donel High," said Steve Kent, MHA for Mount Pearl North. "As a graduate of O'Donel, I am proud of the achievements and contributions of this school community. Our government strives to provide the best possible infrastructure to support the continued development of our students and educators."

Budget 2012 includes $115 million for new and ongoing K-12 infrastructure.

“These investments for O'Donel High School demonstrate our commitment to provide maintenance and upgrades to our schools and to ensure a healthy learning environment for students,” said the Honourable Paul Davis, Minister of Transportation and Works and MHA for Topsail. “This work will ensure this school continues to serve the students of Mount Pearl well into the future.”

Since 2004, about $567 million has been allocated for school infrastructure throughout the province. Nine new schools have opened; 10 more are in various stages of planning or construction; 12 major extension and renovation projects have been completed, and seven more are underway or in the planning stages.
