Tender Awarded for Upgrades to Northern Peninsula School

Pittman’s Enterprises Ltd. of St. Paul’s has been awarded a tender valued at almost $158,000 to carry out roofing and other upgrades to Sacred Heart All Grade School in Conche.

“New roof coating and windows will be installed in the gymnasium section of the school, in addition to other exterior work to the building,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman. “With this latest project, over $236,000 has been allocated for improvements to Sacred Heart All Grade in recent years to provide a safe and comfortable learning environment for students and staff.”

Budget 2012 includes $115 million for new and ongoing K-12 infrastructure, including $29 million for priority repairs and maintenance.

“The Western School Board is very appreciative of the significant investment made by the Provincial Government to education, especially within the western region,” said Donald Brown, Chair of the Western School Board. “Our mission is to enhance educational opportunities and support student achievement, and these improvements to Sacred Heart All Grade will both improve the school facility and support student learning.”

Since 2004, about $567 million has been allocated for school infrastructure throughout the province. Nine new schools have opened; 10 more are in various stages planning or construction; 12 major extension and renovation projects have been completed, and seven more are underway or in the planning stages.
