Gonzaga High School to Receive Electrical Upgrades
Gonzaga High School in St. John’s will soon undergo $549,180 in electrical upgrades following a recent tender awarded to Controls and Equipment Ltd. of St. John’s.
“This project will see the installation of new electrical systems, including upgrades to fire and emergency lighting systems, new stage lighting, and improvements that will enable Gonzaga High School to accommodate new and emerging technologies,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “It is part of the Provincial Government’s systematic approach to improving existing school facilities to ensure they remain safe and serviceable environments for students and staff.”
The electrical project will begin shortly and be completed this fall. With this latest investment, almost $1.2 million has been allocated for roofing, interior and exterior upgrades to the school since 2006.
Gonzaga High School was opened on September 4, 1962, and will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year.
Budget 2012: People and Prosperity includes $115 million for new and ongoing K-12 infrastructure projects, including $29 million for priority repairs and maintenance. Since 2004, about $567 million has been allocated for school infrastructure throughout the province, including more than 1,700 repair and maintenance projects.
