Elwood High in Deer Lake to Receive New Windows, Doors

A $379,000 tender has been awarded to C-Mac Construction Ltd. of Deer Lake to carry out exterior upgrades to Elwood High School.

“The Provincial Government is continuing to fund upgrades, renovations and repairs to school infrastructure throughout Newfoundland and Labrador,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “These projects help protect our investment in existing school facilities, and ensure students and staff members continue to enjoy safe, comfortable learning environments.”

As part of this latest contract, the Deer Lake high school will receive new windows, doors and other upgrades over the next several months. Since 2004, over $1.2 million has been allocated for upgrades and improvements to the Elwood complex, which includes both an elementary and a high school.

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity includes $115 million for new and ongoing K-12 infrastructure projects, including $29 million for priority repairs and maintenance.

Since 2004, about $567 million has been allocated for school infrastructure throughout the province. Nine new schools have opened; 10 more are in various stages of planning or construction; 12 major extension and renovation projects have been completed, and six more are underway or in the planning stages. In addition, more than 1,700 repairs and maintenance projects have been undertaken. This level of infrastructure investments is unprecedented in the province’s history.
