Deer Lake School to Receive Exterior Upgrades

A $433,694 contract to replace windows, doors and carry out other exterior upgrades to Xavier Junior High in Deer Lake has been awarded to Tech Construction Ltd. of Corner Brook.

“With this latest contract, about $3.5 million has been spent on upgrades to Xavier Junior High since 2005, including electrical work, roofing, and now the replacement of windows and doors,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education.  “The Provincial Government is continuing to fund upgrades, renovations and repairs to existing school facilities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, ensuring they serve the needs of students and staff.”

The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

Budget 2012: People and Prosperity includes $115 million for new and ongoing K-12 infrastructure projects, including $29 million for priority repairs and maintenance.

Since 2004, about $567 million has been allocated for school infrastructure throughout the province. Nine new schools have opened; 10 more are in various stages of planning or construction; 12 major extension and renovation projects have been completed, and six more are underway or in the planning stages. In addition, more than 1,700 repairs and maintenance projects have been undertaken.
