Lewisporte Middle School to Receive Electrical Upgrades
Lewisporte Middle School will soon undergo more than $200,000 in electrical upgrades following a recent tender awarded to Goodyear’s Electrical Ltd. of Gander.
“This project will see the installation of new wiring where required, an assistive listening system for the gymnasium, the upgrading of fire and alarm systems, and other electrical system improvements at Lewisporte Middle School,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “This project is part of the Provincial Government’s commitment to ensuring existing school facilities remain safe environments for students and staff.”
The electrical work is scheduled to be completed over the summer months.
“I am very pleased to see that our government continues to invest in the infrastructure needs of the educational system,” said Lewisporte MHA, Wade Verge. “The students of Lewisporte Middle School will greatly benefit from these upgrades to their school.”
Since 2004, about $567 million has been allocated for school infrastructure throughout the province. Nine new schools have opened; 10 more are in various stages of planning or construction; 12 major extension and renovation projects have been completed, and six more are underway or in the planning stages. In addition, more than 1,700 repairs and maintenance projects have been undertaken. This level of infrastructure investments is unprecedented in the province’s history.
