Mount Pearl School to Receive Additional Upgrades
The second phase of exterior upgrades to St. Peter’s Elementary in Mount Pearl will soon begin, following the recent award of a tender, valued at $536,669, to Eastern Contracting Ltd. of Mount Pearl.
“This phase of the project includes the replacement of windows and siding on the second storey of the school,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “The Provincial Government is continuing to fund upgrades, renovations and repairs to school infrastructure throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. These projects enhance existing school facilities, so that they can continue to serve the needs of students and staff for years to come.”
With this investment, a total of $1.68 million has been allocated for improvements to St. Peter’s since 2004.
“I am very pleased to see our government’s continued investment in the City of Mount Pearl,” said Mount Pearl South MHA Paul Lane. “Education is a key priority for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. Today’s announcement further demonstrates our continued commitment to providing a safe learning environment where our children can excel both academically and socially.”
The project is expected to begin shortly and be completed in the fall of 2012.
Budget 2012: People and Prosperity includes $115 million for new and ongoing K-12 infrastructure, including $29 million for priority repairs and maintenance. Since 2004, over $567 million has been allocated for school infrastructure throughout the province, including new schools, extensions, redevelopments, renovations and approximately 1,700 repairs and maintenance projects.
