Roofing Work Slated for Beachy Cove Elementary
AMD Holdings Ltd. of St. John’s has been awarded a $551,440 tender to undertake roofing work at Beachy Cove Elementary, a K-6 school in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s.
“The Provincial Government is continuing to fund upgrades, renovations and repairs to school infrastructure throughout Newfoundland and Labrador,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “These projects help protect our investment in existing school facilities, and ensure students and staff members continue to enjoy safe, comfortable learning environments.”
Since 2004, about $2.7 million has been approved for upgrades and extensions to Beachy Cove Elementary, where enrolment has increased by over 155 students, or 30 per cent, in the past 10 years.
“This is another example of how this government is committed to improving the learning experience for students in this province, and particularly in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s,” said David Brazil, MHA for Conception Bay East-Bell Island. “I am also pleased that government is moving forward with planning for a potential new school to meet the needs of this fast-growing community.”
Budget 2012: People and Prosperity includes $115 million for new and ongoing K-12 infrastructure. Since 2004, about $567 million has been allocated for school infrastructure throughout the province, including new schools, extensions, redevelopments, renovations and approximately 1,700 repairs and maintenance projects.
