Roofing Project Approved for Corner Brook School
Island Roofing Co. Ltd. of Cox’s Cove has been awarded a $273,890 tender to replace the roof and carry out other repairs at St. Gerard’s Elementary in Corner Brook.
“In the past eight years, more than 1,600 repairs and maintenance projects – including new roofs, windows, siding, electrical upgrades and more – have been approved for schools throughout Newfoundland and Labrador,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Education. “This level of activity is unprecedented in the province’s history.”
The roofing project at St. Gerard’s Elementary, a K-6 facility, is expected to be completed over the summer months. The school is also in the process of receiving an electrical upgrade, bringing the total improvements approved over the last two years to almost $365,000.
“I am very pleased with this investment in upgrades to St. Gerard’s School,” said the Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Finance and MHA for Humber East. “These improvements are necessary to ensuring that the school is properly maintained and that students, teachers and staff at St. Gerard’s have a safe and healthy environment in which to learn and work.”
Since 2004, the Provincial Government has allocated more than $504 million for school infrastructure. Nine new schools have opened; five more are in various stages of planning or construction; 12 major extension and renovation projects have been completed, and six more are underway or in the planning stages.
