Media Advisory: Minister to Sign Memorandums of Understanding with Aboriginal Communities

The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services, will be in Nain and Sheshatshiu tomorrow (Tuesday, November 6) to formalize a collaborative framework for the delivery of the department’s programs and services to the Inuit and Innu of Labrador.

At 10:00 a.m., Minister Johnson will meet with Sarah Leo, President of the Nunatsiavut Government, and Patricia Kemuksigak, Minister of Health and Social Development, to sign a Memorandum of Understanding. They will be joined by the Honourable Nick McGrath, Minister Responsible for Labrador Affairs, and the Honourable Felix Collins, Minister for Intergovernmental and Aboriginal Affairs. The signing will take place at 25 Ikajuktauvik Road in Nain.

At 3:00 p.m., Minister Johnson will meet with Chief Andrew Penashue of the Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation and Chief Simeon Tshakapesh of the Mushuau Innu First Nation at the Mary May Health Centre in Sheshatshiu to sign Memorandums of Understanding with each of the Innu bands. The minister will be joined by Minister McGrath, Minister Collins, and Keith Russell, MHA for Lake Melville.
