Contract Extensions Issued for Employment Assistance Services

The Provincial Government announced today that contracts with Employment Assistance Services providers across Newfoundland and Labrador have been extended for the period covering April 1 to September 30, 2012, or up to a maximum of six months.

This extension will be carried out through amendments to Employment Assistance Services contracts currently in place with the Department of Advanced Education and Skills.

“A key priority for Advanced Education and Skills is the need to better integrate, streamline and enhance employment and training programs and services,” said the Honourable Joan Burke, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills. “We value the work and services provided by all organizations contracted by this government. This extension will provide the necessary time to examine programs and services, such as those provided by third-party groups and organizations, to better ensure they are meeting the intended goals, objectives and mandate of the new department.”

The Department of Advanced Education and Skills is working with communities, business, labour and training institutions to ensure Newfoundland and Labrador is prepared to take full advantage of the opportunities ahead. These efforts will mean quality jobs for people, safe and productive workplaces, and access to a skilled and innovative workforce which employers need to compete in the global economy.
