Rut Repair Announced for Avalon Roads
Areas of rutting on five high-traffic roads on the Avalon Peninsula will be repaired this construction season, as the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador awards a contract valued at approximately $2.1 million to complete the work.
“With these repairs, areas of rutting will be stripped away to create a level surface, which will then be refilled with new asphalt,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “These repairs will rejuvenate areas of the most travelled roads on the Northeast Avalon.”
Sections of the Outer Ring Road, CBS Bypass Road and Route 60, between Cherry Lane and Foxtrap Access Road, will undergo rut repair work. Rutting along a section of Route 20 between Marine Drive and Lower Road will also be repaired. Asphalt repairs to various bridge decks on the Outer Ring Road and Torbay Road will also be addressed in this contract.
“Road and bridge repairs are taking place all over Newfoundland and Labrador this season, and these repairs will lead to an improved transportation network across the province,” said Minister Hedderson.
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides funding of $216.4 million for road and bridge improvements, supplemented by an additional $35.2 million in Federal Government funding, for a total road and bridge investment in 2011-12 of $251.6 million.
