Enhancements Announced for Fogo Island – Change Islands Ferry Service

The MV Nonia will supplement the Fogo Island - Change Islands ferry service until mid-August to help better accommodate traffic demand.

“The MV Nonia will help accommodate the current traffic demand on the Fogo Island-Change Islands service,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “We have noticed increased demand during this period and we are adding a second vessel to help ensure a smoother flow of traffic.”

Effective today (Thursday, August 4) the MV Nonia will provide a combination of dedicated trips to Change Islands and combined trips to Fogo Island and Change Islands from Farewell. This will allow the MV Capt. Earl W. Winsor to offer a dedicated service to Fogo Island during its busy summer festival season.

“This is great news for everyone wishing to travel to Fogo Island and Change Islands,” said the Honourable Derrick Dalley, Minister of Business, and MHA for The Isles of Notre Dame. “Our rural communities benefit greatly from summer festivals and celebrations. The increase in traffic from these events contributes greatly to the local economy. Capacity becomes an issue on this ferry service during these periods each summer and I am pleased we are able to bring a second vessel into service to help accommodate the traffic demand. This initiative should lead to an even more successful summer festival season.”

Schedule information can be obtained by calling 709-627-3492 for the Fogo Island service or 709-621-3150 for the Change Islands service.

Schedules for the enhanced service are also posted on the department’s website at: www.gov.nl.ca/tw/ferryservices/schedules/c_fogo.html
