New Pavement on the Way for Cape St. Francis and
Conception Bay East - Bell Island

Several roads in the Cape St. Francis and Conception Bay East - Bell Island regions will see new pavement as the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador calls a tender for road work in the area.

“We are very pleased to announce this work for these regions,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works. “Every metre of new asphalt is a continuation of our government’s investment in provincial infrastructure.”

The tender includes upgrading and paving of various local roads on Bell Island, as well as approximately 800 metres of Bauline Line Extension and approximately 2.2 kilometres of Beachy Cove Road.

“Maintaining a high quality road system is part of maintaining a vibrant community,” said David Brazil, MHA for Conception Bay East - Bell Island. “Our government continues to invest in our communities by investing in our transportation infrastructure.”

Approximately 1.7 kilometres of Bauline Line and approximately 200 metres of Windgap Road will also be upgraded and repaved.

“These roads are used every day by people in this region to travel to and from work, school or other communities,” said Kevin Parsons, MHA for Cape St. Francis. “Once complete, this work will help improve the driving experience for all those who travel our roads.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides funding of $216.4 million for road and bridge improvements, supplemented by an additional $35.2 million in Federal Government funding, for a total road and bridge investment in 2011-12 of $251.6 million.
