Road Work Announced for Harbour Main

A section of Route 60 in eastern Newfoundland will be upgraded this construction season as the Department of Transportation and Works calls a tender for road work in the area.

“Our highways are the vital link between our communities and we welcome this upgrade to Route 60, which will benefit the residents and visitors who regularly travel this highway,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works and MHA for Harbour Main. “Our government continues to invest in our more than 9,500 kilometres of highways and bridges, strengthening our transportation infrastructure.”

This tender provides for the upgrading and repaving of approximately two kilometres of Route 60 from Georgetown towards Colliers.

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides funding of $216.4 million for road and bridge improvements, supplemented by an additional $35.2 million in Federal Government funding, providing for a total road and bridge investment in 2011-12 of $251.6 million.
