Public Advisory: MV Apollo to Undergo Final Repairs

The Department of Transportation and Works advises that a plan is in place to provide service to residents and businesses across the Strait of Belle Isle as the MV Apollo enters drydock for final repairs on a damaged propeller.

The MV Apollo will complete the daily schedule on Wednesday, June 8, and then leave service and proceed to drydock. The vessel is expected to be out of service for approximately one week. The MV Astron will resume the schedule on Thursday, June 9, providing ferry service on the Strait of Belle Isle until the MV Apollo returns.

The MV Astron will carry freight, vehicles and up to 12 passengers between Blanc Sablon and St. Barbe. This will be supplemented with air service to accommodate passengers.

Air service will be provided with a minimum of two planes which will fly between the airstrips in Forteau, Labrador, and Sandy Cove on the Northern Peninsula and between Blanc Sablon and St. Anthony. A shuttle service will be provided to bring passengers to and from the marine terminals and the air strips.

Ticketing and reservations will continue to be processed through Labrador Marine Inc. Travellers and shippers will be charged the same rates as they would normally be charged if using the MV Apollo.

For reservations or information on crossing times contact Labrador Marine Inc. at 1-866-535-2567 within the province or 1-709-535-0810 outside the province.
