Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Hosts Sectionals Competition

Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador will host the 2012 Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Sectionals, November 11 and 12, at Jack Byrne Arena in Torbay. Fifty competitive level skaters, aged seven to 18, from throughout the province are expected to participate. The top four in pre-novice to senior level categories will continue on to compete in the Skate Canada Challenge, the qualifying competition for the Canadian Championships, which will be held in Regina, Saskatchewan, from November 30 to December 4.

Skate Canada President, Benoit Lavoie looks forward to the upcoming three years. "This new season is just another stepping stone for our athletes as they continue to develop and strive for a spot on the Canadian Olympic Team in 2014. Qualifying events such as the Skate Canada Sectional Championships are exciting and tremendous learning experiences for the athletes as they work towards their goals."

Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Chairperson, Bev Power would like to express her gratitude to the host committee, and officials, who volunteer many hours to ensure the success of this event. "We appreciate our volunteers' huge commitment of time and expertise which enables Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador members to experience competitive opportunities throughout the season. Good luck to all skaters!"

Admission for the 2012 Skate Canada Newfoundland and Labrador Sectionals is free, and competition runs from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, and 12:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
