Culinary Delights to Discover at Roots, Rants and Roars Festival
Residents and visitors travelling to the Town of Elliston from September 30 to October 2 will be treated to the Roots, Rants and Roars Festival, a one-of-a-kind weekend filled with rising stars from the local and national culinary scene, along with some of the province’s finest entertainers.
“While tourism in Newfoundland and Labrador continues to grow, we will seek out and develop season attractions such as the Roots, Rants and Roars Festival,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “This exciting event is happening in a spectacular natural environment, and provides an interactive culinary experience that highlights local culture and connects people to the land and sea.”
This year’s event features musical and theatrical performances, a “King of Cod” culinary competition, a food hike, and taste-testing stations with food prepared by local and national chefs, including local chef Todd Perrin who recently appeared on the Food Network’s inaugural season of Top Chef Canada.
“Tourism Elliston is very excited about this year’s Roots, Rants and Roars Festival,” said Marilyn Coles-Hayley, Chair of Tourism Elliston. “It’s sure to be a crowd pleaser with renowned chefs and exceptional entertainment all set against the outstanding backdrop of the ocean and Elliston’s famous root cellars.”
The inaugural Roots, Rants and Roars Festival was held in September 2009. The event celebrates the best in food, wines, storytelling, and entertainment from Newfoundland and Labrador. For more information about this year’s festival, visit www.rootsrantsandroars.ca/.
