Leading Tickles Receives $15,000 Investment for Playground Equipment

Leading Tickles Recreation Committee has received $15,000 from the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program to assist with the purchase of new playground equipment.

“The new equipment will complement the current structures at the local school park as well as the community park,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is proud to assist communities which provide residents with a safe place to participate in healthy and fun outdoor activities.”

Leading Tickles Recreation Committee is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.

“Funds to improve recreation facilities in small rural communities such as Leading Tickles are limited,” said Clayton Forsey, MHA for Exploits. “This is a great opportunity for the town to access funding so they can improve recreational facilities and this could add to a healthy lifestyle.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
