Calling All Climbers!
New Equipment Coming to Paradise Youth Centre

The Town of Paradise has received $15,000 through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program to assist with the purchase of a rock climbing wall for the Rotary Paradise Youth Centre.

“With the addition of a rock climbing wall, this facility will no doubt become more inviting to young people in the community,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “This new piece of equipment offers a challenging, fun way for children and youth to be physically active.”

The Town of Paradise is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities, and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.

“The Town of Paradise has been experiencing tremendous growth and attracting many new, young families to the community,” said Paul Davis, MHA for Topsail. “The construction of this climbing wall will help to further the development of the Rotary Paradise Youth Centre and provide much enjoyment and enhanced recreational opportunity for residents.”

Steve Kent, MHA for Mount Pearl North is pleased that funding has been approved to help bolster recreational activity for this area.

“The climbing wall is a great addition to the centre,” said MHA Kent. “Paradise is a rapidly growing community, and it's great that the Provincial Government continues to support the town's development.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
