Chapel Arm Receives Recreational Infrastructure Funding
The Chapel Arm Sports and Recreation Committee is improving its recreational infrastructure as a result of $15,000 in funding through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program.
“The committee will use this grant for renovations to the gymnasium in one of the town’s community buildings,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “These improvements will add to the recreational infrastructure in the community so that residents can take part in physical activity.”
The Chapel Arm Sports and Recreation Committee is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities, schools and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.
“Funding for recreation and sports in small communities, such as improvements to the gymnasium in Chapel Arm, is very important,” said Calvin Peach, MHA for Bellevue. “It means that the people in this area have a place to participate in activities all year long, enabling them to stay active.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
