Playground Equipment in Springdale Funded by Provincial Government
The Provincial Government, through the Capital Grant Program, has invested $15,000 in the Town of Springdale to help purchase new playground equipment for Indian River Academy.
“One of the main objectives of Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador, the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, is to increase participation in recreation, sport and physical activity,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “By supporting this community’s efforts to encourage residents to be physically active, we are one step closer to reaching that goal.”
The Town of Springdale is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities, schools and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.
“Both the town and the school will be extremely pleased because this investment will go a long way in providing equipment for the playground,” said Kevin Pollard, MHA for Baie Verte-Springdale. “Keeping children active and engaged in play is a priority for towns in the area and also for the Provincial Government.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy in 2007, more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
