Town of Wabush Receives $15,000 to Improve Recreation Infrastructure
The Provincial Government, through the Capital Grant Program, has invested $15,000 in the Town of Wabush to assist with the purchase of new playground equipment.
“The Provincial Government supports the improvement of community recreation facilities,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “We endorse the continued efforts of organizations working to increase participation and physical activity for all residents. These improvements will enhance community recreation facilities and infrastructure and will benefit everyone that uses them.”
The Town of Wabush is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities, schools and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.
“I am very pleased that the Provincial Government has provided this funding to purchase playground equipment for the Town of Wabush,” said Jim Baker, MHA for Labrador West. “The current mining boom in Labrador West has resulted in an influx of young families to the area and this investment will help the town provide the recreational facilities to meet the growing demand.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province.
Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
