Ferryland Area Receives $15,000 in Recreational Funding
The Town of Fermeuse and the Bay Bulls-Bauline Athletic Association have each received $7,500 through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program to assist with the construction of outdoor recreational infrastructure.
“The Town of Fermeuse will use their funding to help purchase equipment needed to develop a community playground, while the Bay Bulls-Bauline Athletic Association will construct a gazebo and playground area, and clear a walking trail,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Constructing and maintaining recreational infrastructure is an important component to helping residents of all ages lead a healthy, active lifestyle.”
Both the Town of Fermeuse and the Bay Bulls-Bauline Athletic Association are among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.
“These funds will further build on the significant investments made in recreational infrastructure and recreational programming in the area,” said Keith Hutchings, MHA for Ferryland. “Active living, especially for our youth, has always been a priority of mine. The Provincial Government continues to invest significant funds in recreational projects for everyone from our youth to our seniors.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
