Provincial Basketball Teams at Nationals

The Provincial Juvenile (U17) Girls lost to Manitoba on Friday, 58 – 75 at the Women’s National Basketball Championships in Winnipeg, MB. Hannah Jardine scored with 20 points for the NL team with Sydney Ezekiel getting 15 points and Hilary Strong getting seven points. The team then faced off against Saskatchewan on Saturday and loss 51 – 88. The NL Team placed eight in this tournament. Quebec beat Nova Scotia 79 – 36 to win the bronze medal, and Ontario beat British Columbia 80 – 41 to win the gold medal.

The U15 Girls played against Manitoba on Friday losing 56 – 61; the top scorer was Maria Carroll with 16 points, Rosemary Stanoev got 10 points, and Janet Lee had seven points. The NL team placed eight in the tournament overall. British Columbia beat Alberta 63 – 53 to win the bronze medal, and Ontario beat Quebec 76 – 59 to win the gold medal.

The U15 Boys team loss to Nova Scotia on Saturday at the Men’s National Basketball Championships in Toronto, ON. The top scorer was Ryan Hanlon with 14 points, while Stephen Ryan had 12 points and Christian Greenland got 10 points. Quebec beat Manitoba 63 – 54 to win the bronze medal, while Ontario won against British Columbia to win the gold. The NL team placed eight overall in the tournament.

The U17 Boys team was defeated by Manitoba 81 – 62 on Friday. The top scores of this game were Jacob Hynes with 12 points, Eugene Walsh and Ryan Harnett both getting 11 points each. The NL team then faced Saskatchewan on Saturday for seventh place and loss 102 – 107. The top scorers of this game were Michael Scott 20, Eugene Walsh getting 19 points and Jacob Hynes with 16 points. British Columbia beat Alberta 84 – 62 to get the bronze medal and Ontario beat Nova Scotia to get the gold. The NL U17 team came home with eight place overall.
