Sou’west Arm Receives $15,000 for Recreational Infrastructure Upgrades

The Sou’west Arm Recreation Committee has received a $15,000 investment from the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program to assist with the upgrading of the community playground in Hodge’s Cove.

“This funding will be used to help with costs associated with the redevelopment of the community playground, including ground work and the purchase and installation of equipment.” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The Provincial Government recognizes that facilities such as these are an important component of physical, recreational and social activities in a community.”

Sou’west Arm is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.

“This project will be a great addition to the community and surrounding areas,” said the Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Environment and Conservation and MHA for Trinity North. “The Sou’west Arm Recreation Commission has been working endlessly to raise money to make this playground a reality for the youth of the community. I am pleased that our government continues to support these projects for our youth that promote recreation and active living.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
