Mount Pearl Minor Hockey Association Receives Recreational Infrastructure Investment

The Mount Pearl Minor Hockey Association has received $9,500 through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program to assist with the purchase of a Maximizer Rink Board System.

“The Minor Hockey Association is using this investment to purchase rink divider boards so they can safely separate the ice surface into two sections, allowing for more young hockey players to play and practice at the same time,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “This undertaking helps the organization maximize their available resources, a benefit to youth in Mount Pearl.”

The Mount Pearl Minor Hockey Association is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.

“I am delighted with this wonderful announcement for the Mount Pearl Minor Hockey Association,” said the Honourable Dave Denine, Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and MHA for Mount Pearl South. “The additional equipment is beneficial for all individuals involved with the association and allows more kids to take part in such a wonderful sport. Provincial Government programs such as these enable organizations to continue supporting our youth who are the future of our community.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
