Newfoundland Quarterly Benefits from Cultural Grant

The Newfoundland Quarterly, the province’s oldest magazine, and the second oldest in Canada has received $20,000 in project support through the Cultural Economic Development Program to assist with production costs.

“The Newfoundland Quarterly began publishing in 1901, and today continues to include a variety of features, columns, interviews, and reviews concerning the history and culture of Newfoundland and Labrador,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Support to organizations that preserve our culture and tell our stories is extremely important. We remain committed to fostering the innovative and creative work of our many writers and publishers in Newfoundland and Labrador, including those who preserve our heritage.”

Owned by Memorial University, The Newfoundland Quarterly is published through the Newfoundland Quarterly Foundation established in 1982. For more information, please visit www.newfoundlandquarterly.ca.

“The support of the Provincial Government, through the Cultural Economic Development Program, is invaluable to us,” said Joan Sullivan, Managing Editor of the Newfoundland Quarterly. “With this contribution we are able to continue publishing this vital, living dialogue on the culture and history of Newfoundland and Labrador.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $2.9 million through its Cultural Economic Development Program to support arts, cultural, and heritage initiatives throughout the province. Projects are selected based on the strength of the business plan, vision, and potential development within the sector.
