Terra Nova Area Benefits from Recreational Infrastructure Grants

The Town of Glovertown and the Traytown Recreation Committee have received a combined total of $15,000 through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program to assist with recreational infrastructure within their communities.

“An investment of $7,500 helps the Town of Glovertown offset the cost of purchasing new playground equipment, and an additional $7,500 assists the Traytown Recreation Committee with the expense of refurbishing the community outdoor rink,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Facilities such as this are a vital part of providing opportunity for children and youth to participate in healthy, active, and fun lifestyles.”

The Town of Glovertown and the Traytown Recreation Committee are among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.

“Residents, particularly the youth in these two communities will certainly benefit from the recreational opportunities created by this investment,” said Sandy Collins, MHA for Terra Nova. “The best way to encourage our young people to lead healthy, active lifestyles is to ensure they have fun, such as at community recreational areas with their friends.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
