Green’s Harbour Granted Funding for New Playground
The Green’s Harbour Recreation Committee has received $15,000 through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program to assist with the purchase and installation of equipment at the community playground.
“This funding is being used to help purchase and install various pieces of equipment, including swings, slides, teeter-totters and more,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “This new addition to the town will greatly enhance the opportunity for children and youth to enjoy healthy and fun outdoor activities.”
The Green’s Harbour Recreation Committee is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.
“Investing in playgrounds for our youth will provide an opportunity to increase recreational activity,” said the Hononourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Child, Youth and Family Services and MHA for Trinity - Bay de Verde. “This will have long term positive impacts for their physical, social and mental well-being and is a very welcome announcement for our area residents.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
