Recreational Infrastructure Funding Benefits Town of Harbour Main
The Town of Harbour Main will be refurbishing the community’s baseball field thanks in part to a $15,000 grant provided through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program.
“The town’s recreation commission plans to upgrade the ball field through the application of lawn mix, topsoil and hydro seeding,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “We are pleased to assist in this community project which will provide residents with an improved outdoor area for their participation in healthy and fun outdoor activities.”
The Harbour Main Recreation Commission is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.
“Organized recreation encourages community involvement and healthy living,” said the Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Transportation and Works and MHA for Harbour Main. “Our government continues to invest in communities and in our sport and recreation infrastructure, thereby investing in the health and well-being of our citizens.”
Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
