Town of Rushoon Gets New Playground Equipment

The Town of Rushoon has received $15,000 through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program to assist with the purchase of equipment for the community playground.

“The town will use this grant to purchase a slide, ladder, sandbox, and some swings,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “Properly equipped playgrounds for children are an important component of physical, recreational, and social activities in communities.”

The Town of Rushoon is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities, and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through the latest Capital Grant Program investments.

“Providing a safe, family-friendly environment for our youth to engage in physical activity is vital for a healthy lifestyle,” said the Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture and MHA for Burin - Placentia West. “I congratulate the Town of Rushoon for their commitment to our youth and ensuring they have a healthy, active lifestyle.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
