Funding Provided to Flatrock for Recreational Infrastructure Improvements

The Town of Flatrock will see some new upgrades to the local playground as a result of a $15,000 investment provided through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program.

“This investment will help offset the cost of purchasing and installing new playground equipment and lawn sods, as well as completing general ground work in the area,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “We are pleased to provide support to improve this area in an effort to make it more accessible for the community’s children and youth.”

The Town of Flatrock is among more than 50 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions that have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.

“I am delighted that the youth in the Town of Flatrock will benefit from this investment in the community’s playground,” said Kevin Parsons, MHA for Cape St. Francis. “Improving our recreational infrastructure will help to entice our children to be more physically active, which is a practice that we hope they will continue as they grow.”

Budget 2011 Standing Strong: For Prosperity. For Our Future. For Newfoundland and Labrador provides $11.5 million to support recreation and sport in the province. Since the launch of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million has been committed to recreational and sport infrastructure, programming, and athlete development throughout the province.
