Deadline for 2011 Art Bank Program Announced

The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery Division advises artists and interested parties that September 9, 2011 is the deadline to submit work to be considered for purchase for the 2011 Provincial Art Bank Program.

Artists from the province are encouraged to submit work for consideration by the selection jury which is made up of representatives from the arts community from across the province. After the submissions have been collected, The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery Division will assemble the jury and manage the selection process, the results of which will be announced by the end of April 2012.

As in previous years, submissions can be made through an artist’s commercial art gallery or dealer, or if an artist is not represented by a commercial art gallery submissions should be sent directly to The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery Division at the address below. Artists are reminded that they must provide images of the work to be considered as per the submission guidelines. Submissions can be sent to:

Attn: Collections Technician, Art Bank
The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery Division
9 Bonaventure Ave
P.O. Box 1800, Stn. C
St. John’s, NL A1C 5P9

Detailed submission guidelines and submission forms are available at www.therooms.ca/artbank.asp, by mail, or by calling the Art Bank Collections Technician at 709-757-8047.

The 2011 Art Bank budget is $125,000.

The Art Bank, established in 1982, currently has a total of 2,775 pieces valued at approximately $2.4 million. The program recognizes and promotes the works of the province’s visual artists by exhibiting original art in public buildings. This program offers visual artists a chance to showcase their work to a wide audience, while also increasing the public’s general awareness of the importance of arts and culture in our daily lives. The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery Division manages the submissions and adjudication process, as well as providing ongoing support and care for the acquisitions.
