June is Recreation Month!

With the launch of its annual campaign, June is Recreation Month, Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador (RNL) is encouraging residents to embrace recreation and to find out how fun it really is. This year’s campaign was launched yesterday at RNL’s 40th Annual General Meeting, which is taking place at Hotel Gander, June 2-4.

The June is Recreation Month campaign draws attention to the important benefits and values of recreation to individuals, families, neighbourhoods, and communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.

“It’s important for the health and wellness of our residents that they increase their physical activity,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “The Provincial Government has a strong relationship with our provincial sport and recreation partners, including Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador. We continue to work towards our collective goal of increasing participation in physical activity throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.”

“There are many benefits to participating in recreational activity, including social, physical, and emotional," said Rob Button, President of Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador. "This year, Recreation Newfoundland and Labrador is very pleased to have popular actor Allan Hawco as the honorary chair for the June is Recreation Month campaign. Allan is an active individual and a great role model for people of all ages. His involvement should encourage others to become active in healthy and enjoyable recreation.”
