Expo ’67 Fountain Will Stay in Corner Brook

A well-known landmark in Corner Brook - the Expo ’67 Fountain - will remain in the city once it is removed from the Sir Richard Squires Building. This announcement was made today by the Provincial Government.

“I understand the significance of the fountain to the residents of Corner Brook,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “It is considered a piece of public art and history within the area. Many people have memories of the fountain when they were growing up.”

The fountain originated from the Czechoslovakian Pavilion in Expo ‘67 in Montreal. It is being removed from the Sir Richard Squires Building because of safety concerns. Once taken down, the fountain will be cleaned and stored. Once a suitable location within Corner Brook is found, the fountain will be refurbished prior to reassembly. The new location would need appropriate infrastructure for plumbing and a safe environment for public viewing.
