The following is being distributed at the request of School Sports Newfoundland and Labrador:

Two Provincial Boys Ball Hockey Tournaments Being Held this Weekend

Two high school provincial boys ball hockey team champions will be declared this weekend.

Six teams will be competing in the Boys 4A Ball Hockey tournament, which is being hosted by Stephenville High. Competing in the Division A are the host, Stephenville High, Lewisporte Collegiate, and Mount Pearl Senior High. Competing in Division B are Menihek High (Labrador City), Discovery Collegiate (Bonavista) and Ascension Collegiate (Bay Roberts). The round robin games begin at 9:00 a.m., Friday. Cross over games begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday followed by the championship game beginning at 1:30 p.m.

The 3A Boys Ball Hockey teams will converge on Harriot Curtis Collegiate, St. Anthony. Ten teams will compete in a two-division round robin play beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Competing in Division A will be the host, Harriot Curtis Collegiate, Dorset Collegiate (Pilley’s Island), St. Joseph’s Academy (Lamaline), Jane Collins Academy (Hare Bay) and Henry Gordon Academy (Cartwright). Division B teams include Canon Richards Memorial Academy (Flower’s Cove) J. M. Olds Collegiate (Twillingate), Eric G. Lambert High (Churchill Falls), St. Michael’s Regional High (Bell Island) and Templeton Academy (Gilliams). Round robin starts 9:00 a.m. Friday and continues all day Saturday until 6:00 p.m. The cross overs begin at 9:00 a.m. Sunday and the championship game is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Sunday.

In addition to the gold and silver SSNL medals, a championship banner will be awarded to the winning team. SSNL believes strongly in the values and principles of sportsmanship. In recognition of this, an individual sportsmanship medal will be presented to one deserving person from each team. All teams and officials vote to recognize a team who has displayed great sportsmanship, as well. This team is awarded the Team Sportsmanship Banner.
