Media Advisory: RBC Athletes’ Village to Welcome First Guests
at the 2011 Special Olympics Winter Games

WHAT: Celebrate the official opening of the RBC Athletes’ Village for the 2011 Special Olympics Corner Brook Winter Games. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place, attended by athletes, coaches, mission staff, and representatives from Special Olympics Newfoundland & Labrador, the local games organizing committee, and RBC in attendance.

More than 180 Special Olympics athletes, coaches and mission staff will take up residence at the RBC Athletes’ Village at Corner Brook High for the 2011 Special Olympics Corner Brook Winter Games, from February 18 - 20, 2011.

WHEN: Thursday, January 27, 2010 from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Speeches and ribbon cutting ceremony: 12:00 p.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Lunch/Media interviews: 12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.

WHERE: Corner Brook High – 12 University Drive, Corner Brook

WHO:

Each will be available for interviews after the ceremony

These Provincial Games will host more than 180 athletes, coaches and mission staff who will be competing in the sports of Floor Hockey, Snow Shoeing and Cross Country Skiing. Teams from across the Newfoundland and Labrador will travel to Corner Brook from February 18-20 for the opportunity to compete and be part of this momentous event. These games have added significance because they will be used to select Team Newfoundland and Labrador members who will be representing the province at the 2012 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games in St. Albert, Alberta in February of 2012.
