Clarenville Soccer and Track Facility Upgraded

The Town of Clarenville has been provided $15,000 through the Provincial Government’s Capital Grant Program to assist with upgrading to the community’s soccer and track facility.

“This funding will be used to help with the purchase and installation of bleachers and with upgrades to the town’s soccer and track facility,” said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. “As a government, we are pleased to support projects which encourage all of our residents – young and older alike – to engage in regular physical and social activities in a safe and inviting environment."

The Town of Clarenville is among more than 40 community-based organizations, municipalities and recreation commissions which have received funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.

"I am very pleased with the Provincial Government’s continued support to our residents and youth,” said the Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister of Environment and Conservation and MHA for Trinity North. “This grant will enhance our existing regional recreation infrastructure. The new bleachers are certainly a welcome addition for the spectators at the Clarenville soccer and track and field facility."

Budget 2010: The Right Investments – For Our Children and Our Future provides an additional $300,000 to the Capital Grant Program, bringing the total annual investment in this program to $1.3 million. Since the introduction of the Provincial Government’s recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million in new funding has been committed for recreation and sport infrastructure and programming.
