Data Privacy Day - January 28, 2011

Data Privacy Day is an internationally recognized day to highlight the importance of protecting personal information. The 5th International Data Privacy Day will be celebrated on January 28, 2011 with events held in major centers across Canada in an effort to raise awareness and generate discussion about data privacy and access rights and responsibilities.

This year’s overall theme highlights the importance of protecting electronic data with the slogan, “The Net never forgets. Remember to protect your personal data.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) has partnered with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador, College of the North Atlantic, and the local branches of the Canadian Bar Association, the International Association of Privacy Professionals and the Canadian Association of Professional Access and Privacy Administrators to host an Information Fair at the Avalon Mall (Gap Court) between 11:00 am and 2:00 pm on January 28th, 2011. The provincial Privacy Commissioner, Ed Ring, will be on hand between 1:00 - 2:00 pm.

Other events and presentations are being held at Memorial University, College of the North Atlantic, and the local branch of the Canadian Bar Association.
