Public Advisory: Consultation Session Planned for Northern Peninsula

To support the sustainable management of forests in Newfoundland and Labrador, a public consultation on the preparation of a new five-year operating plan for forest management districts on the Northern Peninsula has been scheduled for tomorrow (Tuesday, November 29).

The focus will be on Districts 17 and 18 which include areas north of Gros Morne National Park. The session is open to all individuals and organizations interested in or affected by forest management activities, including community leaders, commercial timber harvesters, domestic wood cutters, outfitters and environmental organizations. The meeting will take place 7:00 p.m. at the Plum Point Motel.

Five-year operating plans have been prepared for each forest management district in the province since the mid-1990s. The consultation session will explain the planning process and identify the individuals who will make up the planning team. Generally a representative of each stakeholder group becomes a planning team member.

For more information on the planning process, please contact George Gibbons, District Ecosystem Manager, at 709-861-3502 or 709-457-2300.
