Agriculture Fair Taking Place in Corner Brook

The Agrifoods and Garden Show 2011 being held in Corner Brook this weekend is one of several fairs taking place in the province to promote the agriculture and agrifoods industry.

The Corner Brook fair is the largest of its kind in Newfoundland and Labrador. Now in its 13th year, the show is being held at the Pepsi Centre until Sunday, September 25. Highlights include food demonstrations, an animal petting farm, Grade 5 spelling bee and farmers’ markets.

“The agriculture and agrifoods industry is vital to the economy of Newfoundland and Labrador and to our residents who enjoy the locally-produced, high-quality foods produced on our farms,” said the Honourable Shawn Skinner, Minister of Natural Resources and Minister Responsible for the Forestry and Agrifoods Agency. “It’s important that we take the time to participate, and see first-hand the products that are being grown in our own backyards.”

Agricultural fairs offer local residents the opportunity to sample local products and learn more about the agriculture and agrifoods industry.
