Public Advisory: Prescribed Burn to be Conducted in Forest Management District 16

The Department of Natural Resources will conduct two prescribed burns as part of the provinces siliviculture management program. The prescribed burns are scheduled as follows:

• A 30 hectare prescribed burn beginning today (Friday, September 2), weather permitting, at Faulkner’s Flats. The site is located approximately four kilometres northwest of the community of Hampden, and 12 kilometres east off Route 420 on the Clam Pond resource road in Forest Management District 16.
• A 70 hectare prescribed burn beginning today (Friday, September 2), weather permitting, at Lower Long Pond. The site is located approximately four kilometres northwest of the community of Hampden and 12 kilometres east off Route 420 on the Clam Pond resource road in Forest Management District 16

The prescribed burns are being conducted as part of a silviculture management activity to prepare the site for planting and to eliminate the threat of adelgid, a naturally-occurring forest pest which limits tree growth. If weather and wind conditions are not favourable, the burn will proceed as soon as conditions permit.
